I bought my Jackson concept for &275 at middlesborough Music
store in England September 2003.

The guitar has 24 frets, which is what i was looking for, it
has a black strat-style body, volume and tone controls, 1 humbucker, 2
single coiled Seymour duncan dimarzio pickups, there is also a small
metal switch that allows you to select a specific pickup to use if you
are looking to play blues or clean stuff as well. It has a reverse
headstock and the nut clamps (ouch!) that are a bit annoying to retune
your guitar because you have to remove them with an alan key. The
strong points about the guitar are that it has very good action, it is
very easy and accessible to get to all frets and the double locking
tremolo system kicks ass. The weak points are that changing strings is
annoying due to the Floyd Rose bridge and the pickups are mainly
designed for lead guitar stuff and not rhythm. EMG pickups wouldnullve
been ideal so it might just be better off to buy a good new ESP guitar
(as used by Metallica, chimaira, soulfly. etc.)but the lead sounds are
very good once you get used to it. I have only been playing guitar
since about July 2002 so this is my second guitar and it is better
than my first. Buying guitars that are better than your previous one
is a good way of doing things because now I am more certain of what my
next guitar will be.

the only let down on this is the pickups. I have played
other Jacksons, Mavericks, ESPnulls for the same price and they all
have EMG pickups. The difference is quite large and you notice
straight away that the concepts sound is inferior but that is the only
thing I have to worry about when playing it.

I can get perfect harmonics off it on the frets 3, 4, 5, 7,
9, 12, 16, 19, 24. Also I can get perfect pinch harmonics without
having to change the pickup selector which is good. It is better than
my old fender at getting different effects as well. and it pickups a
nice harmonic/feedback sound when you do a vibrato on the thinner
strings for a long period of time which is nice to have as a sound
option.

The guitar is reliable, at first it is a rebellious little
bastard especially when altering the tuning. For example, I wanted to
change the tuning from standard E to Eb, Ab, Db, Gb etc but the
strings kept on going back to standard. To overcome this I just keep
it in standard! The strings only go out of tune if you have been
playing for longe rthan half an hour as well so it is reliable but I
would not consider it good enough for a live gig unless it had a very
good amp and effects to back it up. It is quite heavy as well which I
like in a guitar but some people may not like that. I have used it
live before and it was OK but I would not use it again.

Every single part of the guitar is perfect in my opinion,
nice weight, length, harmonics, thin line neck so your hand can slide
faster and it doesnt ache after a short period, tremolo is good,
controls are good, lead guitar capabilities are great, looks great but
the pickups for rhythm let it down. If you are looking for a classy
starter guitar that is better than your average crappy yamaha starter
or Squier then this is the one for you. Looks great, sounds great and
you feel like you are a better guitarist just because you own it!
